"Scream Queens" is the latest dark comedy-horror helmed by "American Horror Story" creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk. Starring are Emma Roberts, Lea Michele, Oliver Hudson, Abigail Breslin, Keke Palmer, Skyler Samuels, Billie Lourd, Diego Boneta, Lucien Laviscount, Glen Powell, Ariana Grande and Nick Jonas.
So, what should viewers expect from the show?
The "Scream Queens" series by former "Glee" showrunner Ryan Murphy is being dubbed as a "Heather-Friday the Thirteenth" hybrid. According to People magazine, Roberts, Palmer, Grande, Michele and Breslin will star as the sorority sisters of Kappa Kappa Tau. While Jaimie Lee Curtis will portray the role of their house mom.
In spite of the fact that "Scream Queens" has a comedy vibe throughout the first season, it certainly has its share of thrills and massive body count. However, the violence won't be as gruesome and the scares won't be as disgusting compared to "American Horror Story" since it is set up for network television, Rapid News Network revealed.
"It's similar to 'American Horror Story' in that it's anthological but different in that at the end of the first season there will only be four characters out of 25 left," Murphy said. "And those four in season two will go on to a new horror genre."
The series has also a new angle that focuses less on the challenging nature of horror and more on the quantity of murder. But, who is haunting the sisters of the house? The answer is the school mascot, The Red Devil.
Aside from hints coming from its co-creator Ryan Murphy, "Scream Queens" star Keke Palmer teased on what to expect from the series when it debuts this fall.
"Usually he's on FX: Is he still gonna be able to go as brutal as he has been before now that it's on FOX?" Palmer said of Murphy, as quoted by Ace Showbiz.
"Actually, he is. I think that he is keeping that same, heightened, extreme grounded-ness. How he does it, I have no idea. But that is very much so a part of 'Scream Queens'. And also, the comedy. He finds the balance in light of the dark. It's fun to play," Palmer continued saying.
"He's so creative!" she added. "This guy is not about playing by the rules. He's about switching it up."
Meanwhile, Palmer also opened up about working with other actresses in "Scream Queens" such as Emma Roberts, Lea Michele and Abigail Breslin. She confessed working with the girls felt like they're in their own sorority house where their different personalities actually contribute to their characters.
Centered on a college campus shook by several murders, "Scream Queens" is set to premiere on Sept. 22 on Fox.
