Tom Selleck is in deep water! The star of "Magnum P.I." and his wife, Jillie, have been accused by the Calleguas Municipal Water District for allegedly stealing water from its fire hydrant, Sydney Morning Herald reports.
The district, in its complaint, stated that a white truck pilfered at a public hydrant located in a construction site in the drought-stricken community since 2013 for more than a dozen occasions.
The truck supposedly delivered the water to Selleck's sprawling 24-hectare property that has a Westlake Village avocado ranch, which is located in a different water district. Furthermore, the water district hired a private investigator to spy on the TV actor which cost them about $22,000.
The suit said that after its investigator caught sight of the truck at the hydrant siphoning water eight times the week of Sept. 29, 2013, the "Blue Bloods" star was handed a cease-and-desist letter instructing him to stop the illegal activity. But, the vehicle returned again in December of that year. Upon following the truck, the investigator ended up at Selleck's property. Another incident of water hauling occured again on four different days this past March.
According to Fox News, the lawsuit was brought to court last June 30 after communities in California were mandated to cut water usage by 25 percent compared with that of the level in 2013 due to the four-year drought the state is experiencing.
Selleck has his land in Ventura County which is under compulsory cutbacks as high as 36 percent in the previous years.
Meanwhile, Ventura County sheriff's Capt. John Riley told NBC News that his office did probe allegations of water theft, but "we are unable to establish a crime was committed."
The office of the district attorney also established that no case has since been submitted for prosecution.
Tom Selleck has yet to respond to the water theft allegations.
