Ben Affleck, who stars as Bruce Wayne in the upcoming film "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice," is reportedly writing a script with Geoff Johns for a spin-off movie.
Aside from co-writing and playing the lead role of a stand-alone "Batman" film, Affleck will also be directing it, according to Business Standard. This is in line with Warner Brothers' plan for more films based on DC characters.
The academy award-winning director will begin the production once he's done directing his adaptation of Dennis Lehane's novel "Live by Night," The Independent reported.
The 42-year-old actor and Johns, chief creative officer of DC Comics who has worked with comic series such as "Superman," "Flash," "Aquaman," "Batman" and "Justice League," already made a significant progress on the script.
In fact, they are almost done and the script could be ready before the end of the summer, Xpose.ie has learned.
The character of Batman has been interpreted and played by so many actors. Some of them are Christian Bale in "The Dark Knight Rises," George Clooney in "Batman & Robin," Michael Keaton in "Batman Returns" and Val Kilmer in "Batman Forever."
''Batman is basically the American version of Hamlet," Affleck said, comparing the superhero with Shakespeare's Hamlet. "We accept that he's played by actors with different interpretations."
Henry Cavill's co-star said that this version of Batman is at the end of his run.
"He's maybe the end of his life," the "Argo" director added. "There's this sort of world-weariness to it."
He will also appear as Batman in the upcoming film "Suicide Squad" starring Cara Delevingne (Enchantress), Will Smith (Deadshot) Margo Robbie (Harley Quinn) and Jared Leto (The Joker).
"Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice" will hit the Swedish theaters on Mar. 23, while it is scheduled to be released in the U.S. two days after.
Cavill and Affleck, who recently announced that he will be divorcing his wife Jennifer Garner, will be joined by Gal Gadot, Jesse Eisenberg and Jason Mamoa.
The film is directed by Zack Snyder.
