Chris Pine's new movie, "The Finest Hours," whose trailer was released on Wednesday, is based on a true story. In this Disney film, the 34-year-old "Star Trek" actor portrayed the heroic captain of a wooden lifeboat instead of the starship USS Enterprise.
In Chris Pine's new movie, the "Unstoppable" star plays the character of Coast Guard Captain Bernie Webber. He embarks on a suicide mission to rescue the trapped men during a severe storm off Cape Code when the S.S. Pendleton collided with the S.S. Fort Mercer, Reality TV World revealed.
Set in 1952, "The Finest Hours" depicts the events in the wake of a treacherous storm that rips a T-2 oil tanker in half, leaving more than 30 sailors trapped inside, according to Time.
Chris Pine's new movie is directed by Craig Gillespie, who also directed the Disney movie, "Million Dollar Arm," which featured John Hamm. Pine is co-starred by Casey Affleck, who portrays one of the Coast Guard volunteers, Ray Sybert. Ben Foster and John Magaro play the roles of Richard Livesey and Ervin Maske, who commissioned Webber's team to undertake a risky rescue mission. Eric Bana is also featured in the film.
On Wednesday, "The Finest Hours" movie trailer was released and it starts with Capt. Bernie Webber's love interest, played by Holliday Grainger, saying that she's not afraid of the ocean.
"I'm not afraid of the water, Bernie. It scares me at night, that's all. You can't see what's underneath," she reveals. Webber then responds with a think Boston accent, "Just more water."
As shown in Chris Pine's new movie trailer, the blossoming romance between the two is interrupted by a swift and strong storm hitting the East Coast. And despite being warned that it's a suicide mission, the rescuers embark the mission navigating frigid temperature and 60-foot high waves, Daily Mail reported.
The rescuers are up against the treacherous conditions while hearing desperate pleas by the victims of the storm.
Meanwhile, Pine will reprise his role as Captain James T. Kirk in the upcoming sequel, "Star Trek Beyond," which is set to hit theaters on July 8, 2016.
Described as the "most daring rescue in Coast Guard history," Chris Pine's new movie, "The Finest Hours" is based on a 2009 book of Casey Sherman and Michael J. Tougias of the same title and is scheduled to hit theaters on Jan. 29, 2016.
