Marvel's "X-Men: Apocalypse" invaded Comic-Con 2015 and fans have gone gaga over fresh deets about the latest addition to the "X-Men" franchise.
Director Bryan Singer, who is back for the fourth time, firmly said that "X-Men: Apocalypse" is the origin of the "true X-Men." Since this will signal the start a new series of "X-Men" films, it is not surprising that Singer is bringing in new faces for the younger characters.
Actor Tye Sheridan is playing Scott "Cyclops" Summers, Alexandra Shipp will play Storm and "Game of Thrones" Sophie Turner is giving new life to Jean Grey. The most recent addition to the cast is Olivia Munn, who is playing Psylocke. Returning stars include James McAvoy (Professor Charles Xavier), Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), Michael Fassbender (Magneto) and Nicholas Hoult (Beast).
Entertainment Weekly disclosed Singer's thoughts about "Apocalypse." The director told the entertainment news bureau: "This is kind of a conclusion of six "X-Men" films, yet a potential rebirth of younger, newer characters. This is the true birth of the X-Men. This is how it happens."
According to Den of Geek, the "X-Men" franchise, which has been long running without a reboot, basically relied on Magneto — who is considered as an iconic foe of the X-Men — to be its villain for most of its movies. This time around, "X-Men: Apocalypse" introduces their deadliest and most powerful villain, named En Sabah Nur or Apocalypse.
Actor Oscar Isaac was cast as the latest villain to wreak havoc on Earth. Isaac revealed in an interview with Yahoo! what his character would look like. "It'll be a mix [of practical and digital]. I haven't had a script so I haven't had a chance to look through the script and see what the exact requirements are, but I think it'll be a mixture of physical, aided with some robotic technology," the actor said.
In relation to the hype over the new supervillain of the "X-Men" franchise, Marvel revealed a poster of Apocalypse. The live-action villain looks relatively similar to his comic book image, usually illustrated as a colossal figure towering over the X-Men. The Xavier School can also be seen burning in flames and in disarray, suggesting that a more serious predicament has come our mutant heroes' way, as per ScreenRant.
One commenter took to io9's post to convey his thoughts on the upcoming film. "I haven't liked Apocalypse in a long, long time, but I'm hopeful for this version of him. I'm glad this design got rid of his ridiculous blue lipstick, and I hope the rest of him looks different from his comics design too," user Pcm9799 wrote.
"X-Men Apocalypse" is set in 1983, and it will chronicle how the mutants will take a stance as the villain Apocalypse schemes for the world's destruction. The movie is set to arrive in theaters on May 27, 2016 – that's less than a year of an agonizing wait.
