"Furious 8" Spoilers - It seems that new alliances and an unexpected comeback will be the highlight of the upcoming "Fast and Furious" sequel. Rumors have it that mom-of-one Eva Mendes will be reprising her role as Agent Monica Fuentes, while British Dame Helen Mirren will play the role of a new villain.
In the upcoming and much-anticipated "Furious 8," Mendes, 41, will be returning to acting as an agent, a role she portrayed in "2 Fast 2 Furious" and "Fast Five." According to Daily Mail, Universal had made it known that they are interested in working with her again in April. Now, it appears to be a done deal.
A production insider also revealed that the current plot of the upcoming sequel of the "Fast and Furious" franchise actually revolves around her character. Agent Monica Fuentes will allegedly collaborate with Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) and Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson), while the rest of the pact will hunt down a new villain in New York City.
Aside from Mendes, Universal is eyeing young actor Tommy Hatto to play the role of a racer with a close relationship to Fuentes in "Furious 8." But as of the moment, only Diesel, Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez and Tyrese Gibson are sure to reprise their roles in the eighth film.
As for the villains, Classicalite reported that 69-year-old Brit dame Helen Mirren is rumored to be part of the cast as the new supervillain in the upcoming "Furious 8" movie. Jason Statham will also make his villainous comeback as Deckard Shaw from "Furious 7." And Mirren will purportedly set an alliance with Shaw to stir up trouble for the "Fast and Furious" gang.
Earlier this year, Mirren admitted that she is more interested in collaborating with Vin Diesel rather than making "Fast and Furious" films.
"Well...I mean, I am a huge fan of Vin Diesel," Mirren said during an interview with Seth Myers. "It came from me watching him make a speech once at some ceremony, and he was so smart and so funny and so cool. And I just sort of fell a little bit in love with him right there and then."
Statham, on the other hand, spoke about his excitement over his return for the upcoming sequel of the film franchise, Christian Today noted.
"We're already talking about doing another one, Part 8," Statham told Access Hollywood. "I'm a newcomer, I just got invited to the party on this last one. It is nice to know I'll be doing another."
"Furious 8" will be following the record-breaking numbers of the latest sequel, "Furious 7." For now, Universal is reportedly sorting out the plot for the upcoming sequel while aiming for release on April, 14, 2017.
