In a recent sunbathing study helmed by Europe's spray tanning leading manufacturer AURA, researchers revealed that sunbathing has more dangerous and fatal effects than traffic accidents. This illation was made after the company compared the number of deaths in 12 nations including the U.K., New Zealand, Australia, Canada and the U.S.
More people are dying because of skin cancer or melanoma and skin experts have warned everyone of this finding in the latest sunbathing study. Between 12 countries, Australia was registered with the topmost death statistics at an alarming rate of 71 percent, which is much higher than the traffic accident cases recorded in the country. However, Techie News reported that deaths caused by skin cancer will still increase because the data excluded other skin cancer types, specifically basal and squamous cell carcinoma.
Furthermore, the spray tan company emphasized in the sunbathing study, that notwithstanding the exact ratio of mortality rates, skin cancer is still evidently a relevant cause of death, Techie News reported. They also added, compared to traffic safety, skin safety is treated absolutely disproportionally in the day-to-day human existence.
Aside from comparing the fatal effects of sunbathing and traffic accidents, the study also revealed the booming number of women, who use tanning beds or sunbeds.
Known to be hotter than the midday sun, sunbeds have adverse effects, which many skin experts have already warned people about. Penn State Hershey Melanoma and Skin Cancer Center Deputy Director Dr. Rogelio Neves strongly underscored that artificial tanning is the major culprit of melanoma, which is now deemed as the second generally known cancer type found in women ages 20 to 30 years old.
Meanwhile, a latest online-based fashion fad is currently on the rise and skin experts are worried of its harsh effects to the skin. According to The Silver Ink, the latest summer trend in question is sunburn art, a type of body art made by baring certain body parts to the harmful rays of the sun without sunscreen protection. And though it gives awesome results, which is a sunburn in the shape of a particular image, design or pattern, it poses much greater risk to the skin.
As sunburn art becomes the most common summer craze, The Skin Cancer Foundation resolutely warns the public to avoid sunburns in any way. Daily Herald added that the foundation stressed sunburn is extremely hazardous since it causes DNA damage to the skin, speeds up skin aging and intensifies the risks of skin cancer.
Apart from the significant correlation of skin cancer and road accidents in the recent sunbathing study, it was also revealed that sunscreen ignorance is also responsible for the increasing skin cancer cases. As a matter of fact, sunburns in youth increases lifetime melanoma risk by 80 percent. And if an individual suffers more than five sunburns, the risk for melanoma significantly doubles.
