Jake Gyllenhaal's upcoming movie "Southpaw" will blow your mind when you see the amazing transformation his body has undergone to get in shape for his role as Billy Hope, a professional boxer.
"Southpaw" is about a champion boxer who struggles to make a comeback after his life went down into shambles when his wife, played by Rachel McAdams, gets killed, as per E! News.
In "Nightcrawler," the actor had to lose 30 lbs to achieve a slim built so imagine what he had to go through to arrive at the body he has now.
A video was released recently by makers of the film depicting how the talented actor attained his metamorphosis.
According to news.com, Gyllenhaal mentioned to Access Hollywood that he "spent five months training for the movie and trained twice a day."
He added, "I figured I'd make five months into 10 months if I did that. And I was just basically scared that I'd look like an idiot, so I worked as hard as I could. Fear is sometimes a good motivating thing."
So what was Gyllenhaal's work out regimen?
The 32-year-old award winning actor worked with Terry Claybon, an ex-professional boxer, six months before filming initiated last year.
The training happened everyday for three hours and was divided equally in the morning and afternoon. It was then done twice, six hours everyday after the second month. Next in line, Gyllenhaal would study for three hours how to box and then followed by three hours of conditioning, strength and cardio. Not to be missed was doing a set of sit ups during those sessions.
"Gradually we built up, day-by-day, to 2000," revealed Claybon, "It takes time."
The actor, who has involve in other rigid training for his other movies such as "Jarheads" and "Prince of Persia," did not back down from the challenge that the role required of him. The movie's director Antoine Furqa, surprised everyone by joining Jake in his gym sessions, as told by Mirror.
Jake Gyllenhaal's transformation in "Southpaw" is an inspiration to other stars to take their craft seriously and really focus on how to portray the character that they need to present as real as possible to the moviegoers.
Job well done Jake!
