The Ghostbusters reboot will feature an original cast. Dan Aykroyd tweeted on Tuesday that he will be returning in the reboot and was filming a scene with Kristin Wiig with Paul Feig in the director's chair.
Aykroyd however, removed his tweet two hours later, according to EW, which managed to confirm the real deal with the actor's representative. The actor appeared in the original "Ghostbusters" franchise as Dr. Ray Stantz, a paranormal historian, parapsychologist and metallurgist who is part of the four high-tech ghost zappers. There is still no confirmation as to what role he will play in the reboot.
Ernie Hudson, another original cast member, said in April he would also like to be involved, but it has yet to be confirmed if he will be appearing as well.
A third film was slated but was said to get stuck in development hell. One of its original cast, Harold Ramis passed away in 2014, and the film never got made. In this reboot, Paul Feig is recasting the leads as females, featuring Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones. As for the original secretary Janine Melnitz, she will be replaced with a masculine receptionist, played by Chris Hemsworth.
The Daily Mail provides us with a glimpse on the set of this reboot where we can see the female leads, costumes, and stunt doubles in action. Check out the photos here.
Fans however, have mixed feelings about the reboot. The Blaze reported that this is evident on the comments on Feig's tweets. The purist fans in particular are opposed to where the new "Ghostbusters" is heading. Criticisms vary from the gadgets to the car not being the original 1959 Cadillac, and the fact that the leads are women.
Of course, it doesn't make you sexist if you do not like this reboot. What's more interesting is to see how the film will perform both critically and financially.
The film also stars Andy Garcia and Michael K. Williams.
