Apple has yet to reveal any hint about the release of its next iPhone model, but consumers are already going wild about the next generation of smartphone, dubbed the iPhone 5. The new iPhone is rumored to have a bigger screen, increasing from the previous 3.5-inch to 4.0-inch display. Considering the fact that many Apple's competitors have screen sizes much bigger than 4.0 inches, it appears to be time for Apple to make a switch.
However, Apple is not only increasing the size. According to Streetinsider, Wells Fargo has said the iPhone 5 will be the "biggest product launch in consumer electronics' history."
Every time Apple released its new products, it had a big impact on the electronic market. The Cupertino-based company faced many challenges from its competitors, but none of them succeeded in taking over the reign of iPhone series. At least not yet. But could Apple hold onto the throne in the smartphone market and have the "biggest product launch" even with new emerging challenges?
Samsung has started to release its Galaxy S3 just recently in the U.S. market. Eventually, the Galaxy S3 will be available in five major U.S. wireless carriers, Verizon, Sprint, AT&T, T-Mobile, and U.S. Cellular. Unlike many other previous Android-based phones, Samsung Galaxy S3 will have the same design and brand name across all carriers. Keeping the same design and brand name had been one of the factors in Apple iPhone's success in marketing of its brand image as well as ease of manufacturing accessories. Now Samsung Galaxy S3 may have the same advantage.
The Galaxy S3 has a 4.8-inch HD Super AMOLED screen. It will be equipped with 1.5GHz dual-core processor and 2.0GB RAM, sporting Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The device will also have a 8MP back camera and a 1.9MP front camera, capable of recording HD video. The phone is also capable of near-field-communication (NFC) function and 4G LTE.
In Europe, where the device was launched last month, Galaxy S3 has been received with huge enthusiasm, breaking the sales record of Apple's iPhone.
Apple has to come up with something huge to upset the Korean IT giant from taking over the smartphone market. The next iPhone is rumored to have 4.0-inch screen with 16:9 ratio. The phone will support Apple's next operating system for mobile devices, iOS 6, which will come with its own mapping service and ditch Google Map as the default service. The Siri voice function will also see an upgrade, and iOS 6 will have more integration with third-party services, such as Facebook and Yelp. NFC and 4G LTE also have been rumored for iPhone 5.
It had been rumored that Apple will release its iPhone 5 this fall around October after the release of its iOS 6. But a recent rumor suggested, based on Apple's request to its Taiwanese suppliers to rush its delivery, that the launch has been rescheduled to an earlier date in September, or perhaps in August, to catch up to its competitors.
Could it really be the biggest launch in the consumer electronics' history even with the growth of its Android competitors?
We will find out this fall.
