"Xena: Warrior Princess" is getting a reboot? Well, there have been talks that the internationally successful television series is in the very early stages of negotiations and is set to make a television comeback in 2016. However, 47-year-old actress Lucy Lawless, who is best known for the titular character, won't be joining the show.
In 1995, "Xena: Warrior Princess" premiered as a spin-off of "Hercules," and had run for six seasons. Unfortunately, it was cancelled in 2001 despite becoming a pop culture phenomenon, Techno Buffalo noted. Now, after more than a decade, the heroine character is still of value and producers are hoping to bring back the show as an ongoing series instead of a limited run.
Since "Xena: Warrior Princess" has a possibility of getting a reboot, producers are allegedly looking for a sophisticated and smart superhero for a new generation who embodies the charisma and charm of Lucy Lawless and the intelligence of "The Hunger Games" Katniss.
In spite of the fact that the reboot won't feature Lucy Lawless as the titular superhero, there could be a chance for her appearance in the show. According to Time, the show's original executive producers, Robert Tapert, who is Lawless' husband, and Sam Raimi, are apparently on board the reboot deal, which Lawless has been pitching for years.
Meanwhile, as fans across the world are excited about the upcoming "Xena: Warrior Princess" reboot, Deadline revealed that Lucy Lawless said the reports were greatly exaggerated. The original Warrior Princess promptly quieted the speculations through a Twitter post, which was echoed by former costar Jennifer Sky, who played Amarice in the series, on Twitter.
"Sorry, friends! news of a #Xena reboot is just a rumor," she tweeted, Us Weekly quoted. "I'd love it to happen one day but it's still in the wishful thinking stage." While Sky tweeted, "The way rumors become reality is through community support. The 'rumor' is trending."
Despite quashing the rumors, Lawless did reunite with multiple "Xena: Warrior Princess" alums for her latest project. The New Zealand native appears in Starz's "Ash vs. Evil Dead," which is led by "Xena's" Raimi, as per Daily Mail. It also features actor Bruce Campbell, who played Autolycus on "Xena."
