'Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials' SPOILERS: New Characters, New Threats, New Landscape [WATCH

"Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials," sequel to the blockbuster hit "The Maze Runner," brought in new characters Brenda, played by Rosa Salazar, and Jorge, portrayed by Giancarlo Esposito. The duo joined returning stars Dylan O'Brien, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Ki Hong Lee and Kaye Scodelario at the recently concluded San Diego Comic-Con. They dished out some precious infromation regarding the upcoming movie.

According to Fashion&Style, Salazar dished out deets about her character in "Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials." She told Entertainment Weekly, "Brenda's been out there since she was a young girl. She was sort of thrown there ... She meets Jorge and sort of takes her in. They're kind of like a team."

As for Esposito's character, well, it's a different story because he does not have explanations about where he came from in the book. He talked to Collider on how he prepared for the role despite not having any available material to work on. "I have a master's degree in backstory," he said jokingly, and added that he had a discussion with director Wes Ball about his view of the character and worked with what they have agreed on.

Salazar also revealed that "Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials" has a new landscape. She related in an interview with MTV, "So, they're out of the maze. They go through a deserted wasteland called The Scorch. That is The Scorch by the sun. People can't live there because it's scorched. They go through the wasteland and they start running into these things called 'cranks,' which are kind of like, zombies, but worse."

The Global Dispatch revealed that in "Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials," Thomas (Dylan O' Brien) and his comrades in Glader will face their most unimaginable and overwhelming challenge yet. They also have to figure out who or what the group WCKD is. Their search for answers will lead them to the Scorch, which is a desolate landscape.

They are also going to acquaint themselves with a female group that had similar trials and missions as theirs. Also, they were given the responsibility to find a cure before being affected with The Flare, as per Movie News Guide.

Meanwhile, director Wes Ball said in an interview with Zap2It, "We carry them into a whole new set of circumstances they have to survive. Whole new threats and a whole new landscape they have to traverse. It's exciting."

He also spoke of "Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials" concepts, types of scenes and the production.

"The types of scenes are so different than the first movie, everything. It's about being scared, locked in these dark places with just flashlights and I love that kind of really raw, very real since we're not really doing a lot of movie lighting. And it's just flashlights, it's just really scary," he shared in an interview with MTV.

The "Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials" reportedly had around a dozen of sets as opposed to the first movie's two or three sets. The characters also increased in number.
