"The Melrose Place" is back and Lifetime just revealed the cast of the tell-all TV movie spin-off, entitled "The Unauthorized Melrose Place Story." The first photos of the show's cast were released on Wednesday.
For several years, "Melrose Place" has achieved pop-culture phenomenon status and has created an international A-listers cast. Now, as Lifetime will release a tell-all TV movie, the unauthorized version will cover the casting dramas and sensational storylines that invaded the spin-off series, Toronto Sun has learned.
While Lifetime's "Aaliyah" and "Unauthorized Saved by the Bell" movies were not well received, that did not hinder the cable and satellite television channel to broadcast "The Unauthorized Melrose Place Story," Daily Mirror noted. It will be a look back at the hit program in the '90s, which focuses on the complicated lives and loves of young adults in an apartment complex in Los Angeles.
"Melrose Place" cast will include Dan Castellaneta and Adam Korson to play the roles of Aaron Spelling and Darren Star respectively. Us Weekly added the TV movie will also feature Ciara Hanna as Heather Locklear (Amanda Woodward), Rebecca Dalton as Courtney Thorne-Smith (Allison Parker), Frank Bailey as Andrew Shue (Billy Campbell) and Ryan Bruce as Grant Show (Jake Hanson).
Additionally, Chloe McClay will also play the role of Josie Bissett (Jane Mancini), Ali Cobrin as Daphne Zuniga (Jo Reynolds), Teagan Vincze as Marcia Cross (Kimberly Shaw), Joseph Coleman as Doug Savant (Matt Fielding), Brandon Barash as Thomas Calabro (Michael Mancini), Karissa Tynes as Vanessa A. Williams (Rhonda Blair), Chelsea Hobbs as Laura Leighton (Sydney Andrews) and Lanie McAuley as Amy Locane (Sandy Louise Harding).
Even though Lifetime's newly released "Melrose Place" photos could pass as the cast photo of the FOX drama, cast members playing Kelly Rutherford and Lisa Rinna are suspiciously absent, TVLine reported. So, did Lifetime purposely ditch Rinna and Rutherford's roles?
Meanwhile, as Lifetime prepares to broadcast more unauthorized stories, "Melrose Place" cast photos sparked a social media backlash, particularly on Twitter. As per International Business Times, fans seemed to be not thrilled after the cast photos were released. Some even claimed they couldn't recognize who the characters were supposed to be while others were strongly against the idea of the movie.
"The Unauthorized Melrose Place Story" is set to premiere on Oct. 10 at 8 p.m. on Lifetime.
