Will an "X-Men"/"Fantastic Four" crossover be possible? According to director Bryan Singer, a crossover between the two franchises could happen if the reboot of the movies are successful.
With the possibility of an "X-Men"/"Fantastic Four" crossover, Marvel is definitely expanding their cinematic universes even further. In an interview with Yahoo! Movies, Singer made the revelation the mutants and the superheroes might meet in one film.
"Those ideas are in play," Singer said. "That would be a natural match-up because they're both ensemble films and there is a natural mechanism by which to do it."
Singer added the "X-Men"/"Fantastic Four" crossover will depend on the success of their respective reboots, Variety has learned.
"We have to see how the films turn out - how this film turns out, how 'Fantastic Four' plays, to really understand what kind of desire and how that would really work. I think to just say you're gonna do it is a mistake. You have to see how the films evolve before you make the decision to completely commit to that."
While he hinted the possibility, Singer did not give any further details about how the franchises would be combined.
"It deals with time," the "X-Men: Apocalypse" director added. "That's all I'm going to say."
The potential "X-Men"/"Fantastic Four" crossover might have thrilled some Marvel fans. However, others have second thoughts since "X-Men" has become one of the worst continuity threads in cinema history, The Independent noted. And with the addition of the "Fantastic Four" superheroes, things could end up in utter chaos.
Marvel comics have had plenty of parallel universes in the past and the upcoming reboot of the original Marvel family could also set a deal in bringing the two sets of characters together. According to International Business Times, there's a possibility the superheroes could meet the mutants in the parallel universe. Since alternate worlds in comic books are used to bring different forces together, imagine what an "X-Men"/"Fantastic Four" crossover could offer?
Meanwhile, "X-Men: Apocalypse," features an ensemble cast including James McAvoy (Professor X), Michael Fassbender (Magneto), Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), Oscar Isaac (Apocalypse), Nicholas Hoult (Beast), Rose Byrne (Moira MacTaggert), Olivia Munn (Psylocke), Evan Peters (Quicksilver), Kodi Smit-McPhee (Nightcrawler), Sophie Turner (Jean Grey), Tye Sheridan (Cyclops), Alexandra Shipp (Storm), Lucas Till (Havok), Josh Helman (William Stryker), Lana Condor (Jubilee), and Ben Hardy (Angel).
The "Fantastic Four" reboot, on the other hand, features Miles Teller (Mr. Fantastic), Kate Mara (The Invinsible), Michael B. Jordan (The Human Torch) and Jamie Bell (The Thing). "Fantastic Four" will hit the theaters on Aug. 6 while "X-Men: Apocalypse" will be released on May 27, 2016.
