Following the success of "Jurassic World" this year, Universal Studios has planned its sequel, temporarily called "Jurassic World 2," to be released in 2018. The second installment of Chris Pratt's dinosaur movie will follow up or exceed the success of its predecessor that became the third biggest box-office film globally.
Originally conceived as a stand-alone film, "Jurassic World 2" was planned largely because of the film's overwhelming box-office success and Pratt's popularity. And as Universal Studios has nailed a date for its release, here are 4 exciting details about the upcoming dinosaur sequel movie.
1. Release Date
"Jurassic World 2" release date will be on June 22, 2018. According to Christian Post, it is the only movie that will be showing on that date so far.
2. Cast
Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard will be returning to reprise their roles as Owen Grady and Claire Dearing, respectively, The Bitbag has learned. But beyond them, no other casting confirmation has been made to date.
3. Plot
"Jurassic World 2" may feature multiple hybrid dinosaurs and will not be limited to parks, as per International Business Times.
"I feel like the idea that this isn't always going to be limited to theme parks, and there are applications for this science that reach far beyond entertainment," Trevorrow told Wired, "And when you look back at nuclear power and how that started, the first instinct was to weaponise it and later on we found it could be used for energy."
He also explained the possibility of creating hybrid dinosaurs and an open source to create one especially when "Jurassic World's" Indominus Rex Creator Dr. Wu escaped in the first film unscathed.
"What if there are 15 different entities around the world who can make a dinosaur?" he added before hinting, "And Dr Wu says in the film, when he's warning Dr Mesrani, 'we're not always going to be the only ones who can make a dinosaur.' I think that's an interesting idea that even if we don't explore fully in this film, there is room for this universe to expand."
4. Producers and Director
"Jurassic World 2" will have Steven Spielberg as its executive producer under Amblin Entertainment, Forbes noted. Unfortunately, the sequel does not have a director yet since "Jurassic World" director Colin Trevorrow refused to helm the second installment. But he will be an executive producer and will co-write the screenplay along with Derek Connolly.
Meanwhile, aside from "Jurassic World 2," Chris Pratt has also lined up future projects including "Guardians of the Galaxy 2" and "Indiana Jones 5," Movie Pilot reported.
