The recently released "Mortal Kombat X" has topped the list of best-selling games for this year.
Compiled by the market research firm the NPD Group, the list showcases the top ten games with the highest sales figures for the first half of 2015, according to Fortune.
Although Warner Bros.' "Mortal Kombat X" just came out in April for the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One platforms, the game has managed to attract the attention of gamers due to its impressive gameplay.
Various review sites such as Bloody Disgusting praised the title for its visual quality as well as the fighting game's popular elements such as its gore, fatalities and storyline.
Trailing behind "Mortal Kombat X" are "Grand Theft Auto V," "Battlefield: Hardline," "Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare" and "Minecraft." Rounding up the sixth to tenth spots are "Batman: Arkham Knight," "Dying Light," "NBA 2K15," "The Witcher: Wild Hunt" and "Super Smash Bros."
The NPD Group noted that the list only refers to the sales of games for the first six months of 2015. This means that other titles could still dethrone "Mortal Kombat X" from its top spot. But since the game's editions for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 are still scheduled to arrive later this year, the latest "Mortal Kombat" title still has a good chance of maintaining its number one status for the rest of 2015.
It seems July is shaping up to be a good month for the "Mortal Kombat X" franchise as the 30th issue of the comic book series based on the game has just been released by DC Entertainment, the News Hub reported.
In the latest issue entitled "Chaos," fans get to see Havik's plans fully unravel as he successfully wields the powerful Amulet of Shinnok. In addition, using blood magic, he was able to brainwash and enslave some of the series' major characters including Sonya, Kotal Kahn, Mileena, Cassie Cage and Raiden to do his bidding.
Centering on Havik, the plot of "Chaos" stays true to the nature of the character's back-story in the "Mortal Kombat" universe. Like in the original series, Havik is presented in the latest issue as neither a hero nor a villain.
Instead, he remains as a neutral character who's focused on causing trouble in the different realms.
In "Chaos," Havik's main plan is to remove the concept of death to disrupt order in the universe, Tech Times has learned. He believes doing so will teach champions of the realms that chaos cannot be defeated.
