‘Fallout 4’ Gameplay, Updates & Release Date: No More ‘Pip-Boy Editions’ From Bethesda; Development Now Complete

Bethesda Game Studios, the developer of the "Fallout" series, said it will no longer release additional "Pip-Boy Edition" units despite the high demand for the items.

Fortunately, this is the only bad news that the studio has to share since it recently announced that development of "Fallout 4" has just been completed.

Shortly after unveiling the latest installment in the "Fallout" franchise in June, Bethesda released the "Fallout4: Pip-Boy Edition" as a marketing tool. In the game, this device is a small computer strapped to the main character's wrist. It provides players with information and other menu options.

Its real-world replica functions as a casing for smartphones. Almost immediately after it was released, every single unit of the special edition item was purchased by "Fallout" fans and is now sold out.

According to Pete Hines, Bethesda's VP of marketing, the studio wanted to make more "Pip-Boy Editions" after seeing how well they were received by the public. However, the factories that made them told the studio they could no longer produce additional units, Gamespot reported.

The executive explained that despite Bethesda's requests, the manufacturing facilities still have other projects and clients to attend to.

Due to gamers' demands, some of the lucky few who were able to purchase them are selling their own "Pip-Boy Editions" on eBay for $350, even though the original price of the items was only $120, according to Forbes.

Despite the lack of additional "Pip-Boy Editions," Hines shared a bit of good news for fans of the series. According to the executive, the game's content is now complete. He added that the studio has finished working on the game before it was announced to the public.

With "Fallout 4" scheduled to come out on Nov. 10, this leaves developers enough time to make sure the game is free of bugs and glitches, Game Informer has learned.

"Not to over-exaggerate, but the game is essentially done," Hines told the news site. "When you talk about what else you are doing, all we're doing is taking what exists and polishing it and fixing bugs."

"It's not like you work until Nov. 9 and then Nov. 10 it's out," he added. "You have to make discs and do this other stuff. They are finishing the game. That's all they're doing this summer."

"Fallout 4" will be available for the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One once it debuts. It takes place during the same time as "Fallout 3," which is 200 years after a war ended in a nuclear holocaust. The game is set in post-apocalyptic versions of Boston, Mass., and New England.
