"ZombiU," the survival-horror game developed by Ubisoft exclusively for the Wii U console, will be re-released for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on Aug. 18.
For the new edition of the game, the development studio has renamed it as "Zombi," dropping the "U" from the original title. According to Ubisoft, this was done because the first version of the game has always been associated with Nintendo's console, Gamespot reported.
In addition, the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC versions of the game will be released digitally. It is not yet confirmed if the developer will release a boxed edition of the game for the different gaming platforms in the future.
Despite the changes, "Zombi" will still provide the same gameplay experience as the original version. Like "ZombiU," the new edition will put gamers in the shoes of human characters fighting to survive in a world overrun by the undead.
In this first-person shooter game, players will have to rely on a variety of items and weapons to ward off the zombies. However, unlike in other similarly themed games, players will not be able to continue their character's story once they die or get turned into a zombie after getting bitten.
Instead, the game will continue through the perspective of another character. But, players can still reclaim their items by killing their original or first character, which has become one of the roaming undead.
"Zombi" for the PC and next-gen consoles will only have single-player or campaign mode, Engadget has learned. Unlike the original version, it will not come with multi-player support which lets players team up with their friends to increase their chances of surviving in the game.
Although it lacks this feature, Ubisoft noted that the new "Zombi" game's visual quality has been enhanced, Kotaku reported.
"Once again, this fear-fueled first-person shooter invites all players to dive into the horror, chaos and tension found in the best of the genre," the developer said in a press release. "The nail-biting survival experience has been optimized for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC, using the power of the latest generation of hardware to bring gamers to a new level of horror."
