Yahoo! Inc. is considering online tv service Hulu LLC Chief Executive Officer Jason Kilar for its leading job as CEO.
Kilar is amongst a few others that the company is considering, alongside contender Ross Levinsohn, Yahoo's interim CEO.
Yahoo hopes to find a CEO who can increase company growth and someone who will remain with the company for the long haul. Previous CEO Scott Thompson left the company in May after refusing to correct flaws in his academic credentials. Thompson came after Tim Morse, who took the role as interim CEO in 2011 after Yahoo dismissed its previous CEO, Carol Bartz. Bartz was fired due to the company suffering losses in market-share and customers to companies like Google Inc. and Facebook Inc.
Kilar is a former executive at Amazon.com Inc., and took the role as CEO of Hulu four years ago. Throughout his term Hulu has grown quickly, now having over 2 million paid subscribers. Kilar is also credited with making Hulu into one of the largest online television sites.
Current interim CEO Levinsohn has led management changes while at Yahoo, naming Google's Michael Barrett as chief revenue officer in June. Following Levinsohn placement into the interim CEO position, board chairman, Fred Amoroso, recommended that Yahoo place Levinsohn in a more permanent CEO position.
Yahoo's biggest decision will be whether Kilar's strong skills in technology and product development will be best fitting for the position, or whether Levinsohn's media and advertising expertise will work best.
