Saturday Night Live head writer, Seth Meyers, might be next up to replace former co-host Regis Philbin on Live! With Kelly.
According to Showbiz 411, the search for a replacement may almost be over, as possible co-hosts have been narrowed down to Meyers, singer Josh Groban, and New York Giants defensive end Michael Straham.
Of the three candidates, most predictions point to Meyers as the best fit for the position, as he had already gained popularity as a guest co-host in the spring. Additionally, Meyers has been the head of SNL's "Weekend Update" segment for four years, making him very qualified for the new position.
Starting Monday July 9, Meyers will sit alongside host Kelly Ripa for the entire week. This lands Meyers in a good position to potentially get the job, as this is the longest guest co-hosting time period since Neil Patrick Harris.
Sources from the show have said that Kelly "loves" Seth Meyers, which could be good for the future partnership if Meyers is chosen. Michael Gelman is also said to be a big fan of Meyers and so is "everyone else who plays a role in the decision making process," according to an unnamed long-time staff member at 'Live'.
Although Meyers seems to be the most favored of the three possible co-hosts, he does however have tough competition from Josh Groban.
Groban will be a guest co-host for three days following Meyer's one week stint.
