Nintendo will let players create and upload levels that can be shared in the Facebook community. More than 100 employees of the social networking site participated in a "hackathon," an invitation from the Japan-based company to create a level for a new "Super Mario Maker."
For those who are not familiar with hackathon, it is also known as a hack day or a code fest. It is an event wherein computer programmers, software and hardware developers gather together to intensively work on a project, and Nintendo is taking it at Facebook headquarters.
There is one rule though, before a player can submit and share the game he created, he actually needs to play and beat it first, according to Wii U Daily. After which, Nintendo will check to determine the level of difficulty before it becomes available for everyone to download.
Nintendo gave an early access to the social networking site, so participants could create their own level of play. Some teams drew diagrams on papers, others worked on white boards.
There are also participants who used sticky notes. The winning level will be available as Miiverse, Nintendo's social network for Wii U consoles, as per the report of IBN Live.
Krysta Yang of Nintendo America said that creating the winning Facebook level promises bragging rights among Mario enthusiasts at the social networking site.
"We are millennials and we grew up playing Mario," a Facebook employee named Amanda Maler said at the "Super Mario Maker" hackathon.
"Mario Maker" aims to re-imagine a 30-year-old game and push everything to its maximum potential to fit well with the goal. AJ Glasser, manager of the social network's games partnership team, stated that Facebook has already attracted some of the brilliant minds in the tech industry.
"Super Mario Maker" the game creation video game will be released by Nintendo for Wii U on Sept. 11, as per Nintendo Enthusiast.
