"The Last of Us 2" is no longer a rumor when voice actor Nolan North confirmed that Naughty Dog's sequel is currently in the works. Despite the confirmation, updates have been scarce, so fans speculate instead about the plot and the characters.
The ending of the first game was beautiful and bare. Joel got emotionally attached to Ellie that lead to a decision of sparing her life at the cost of saving humanity's remnant.
There were so many factors left open to be interpreted, which also left the players trying to figure out the faith of the characters. The ending was beautiful as it was, and continuing from there for the plot of the sequel may be problematic, according to Youth Health.
Many are hoping that Naughty Dog is not going to take the risk and "go near the plot line of the original title."
One suggestion stated that there were plenty of gaps in the opening scenes of the first game, that was 20 years before Ellie came into the picture, so maybe they could start from there. Or, for this sequel, they could do more exploration of Joel's dark past.
It has been also suggested that a potential exploration on The Fireflies can be done, while another prediction pointed towards the obvious — focus on Ellie but several years later, without Joel.
Another suggestion for the "Last of Us 2" noted, as per a Venture Capital Post report, that Ellie could have been trying to survive, while Joel lied to her about The Fireflies.
Other than Joel and Ellie, Movie Pilot noted some characters that could play the lead in the sequel. One suggested character was Marlene and the sequel, or in this case a prequel, on how she became the leader of The Fireflies.
Next was Joel's brother, Tommy, who saved his life. Another suggestion pointed to Henry and Sam, whose relationship was like that of Joel and Ellie. Their inspiring love story may deserve a sequel.
Finally, there's Tess. She has a strong character, so fans would like to see how she escaped after the outbreak.
"Last of Us 2" doesn't have a release date yet. The plot and characters are yet to be confirmed, so stay tuned!
