Android M Reviews, Features & Release Date: Check Out How The OS’ Developer Preview Runs On The Nexus 5, 6 & 9 Devices; Third Beta Version Delayed

As Google prepares to unleash the Android M to the public, the company has maintained its promise of releasing regular updates for its upcoming firmware.

The first Developer Preview of the operating system, which was designed as a beta version to help Google iron out all the technical aspects of the software, came out earlier this year. The company then rolled out the second version in July for the Nexus 5, Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 handsets, Latinos Post has learned.

The updated beta version features several bug fixes that came with the first Developer Preview. It also came with various new features for the developers testing out the platform.

One of these is the modified permissions system. In the second beta versions, apps that will be used only for the first time will require permissions. However, once they are accessed, users will no longer go through the same security procedure, Android Geeks reported.

The Android M Developer Preview 2 also comes with native support for devices' fingerprint readers as well as the Doze mode. This new addition can help decrease the background operations of devices by putting apps in a deeper rest state. This feature was added in order to optimize battery life and manage RAM more efficiently.

Other new features include the Direct Share, which notifies users which apps their contacts are regularly using.

As for the successor of the second beta version of Android M, Google previously announced that it will arrive in July. However, according to Gotta be Mobile, the release of the update has been delayed. There are no confirmations yet regarding the arrival of Developer Preview 3 but the site noted that it will come out soon.

Like previous versions, the third update is expected to come with bug fixes designed to solve issues with Developer Preview 2. It will also contain new features that will improve the overall interface of the Android M.

According to Google, the third update marks the last stages of the platform's development. Despite its delay, the company noted that the release of the final version of Android M is still on schedule and will happen during the third quarter of 2015.
