Major tablet manufacturers are trying to win the battle of tabs by introducing more and more killer products in the arena. And now, according to a new report by Bloomberg, citing unnamed sources, Samsung is planning to launch a Windows RT tablet this year. The tablet will boast Qualcomm's Snapdragon processor chip and will likely debut in October.
Other details regarding the device's hardware are currently unknown. What is knowm, is that tablet will boast Qualcomm's processor, which is likely to be Snapdragon S4 dual-core. Snapdragon S4 is the same chip that Samsung features in its latest flagship smartphone - the Galaxy S3.
Analyst predict that Samsung's early involvement with Windows 8 tablets suggests that the South Korea-based consumer electronics giant intends to play a big role in the launch of the new OS - early Windows 8 tablet prototypes supplied by Microsoft to the press for review were built by Samsung - so it should come as no surprise that Samsung is already prepping a Windows RT slate.
"The decision to support Windows RT follows Samsung's earlier announcement that it will back another version of Windows. It's a boon to Microsoft's effort to use multiple versions of its flagship Windows operating system to challenge Apple in tablets. Microsoft suffered a setback last week when Hewlett-Packard, the world's largest computer maker, said it won't back Windows RT from the get-go," said the Bloomberg report.
Hewlett-Packard plans to introduce a tablet with Windows 8, the version of the software that works only on so-called x86 chips, made by Intel and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD).
Windows RT is first desktop-class Windows operating system to run on ARM tablets. In simple words, Windows RT is a stripped-down version of Windows 8 that will not run old x86 binaries. As a result, the new application customized for Windows RT will only run on ARM version of Windows 8 tablets.
With world's largest PC maker HP leaving the game of ARM version of Windows 8, competing firms have a good chance to shine in the Windows RT market.
Microsoft fired the gun of Windows ARM tablets earlier this year, by introducing its Surface tablet. Now tablet makers like Asus and Toshiba are eager to test the success of the new OS in the market.
Samsung will launch its Windows RT tablet as soon as Windows 8 operating system debut in the market, likely in October. The tablet could double Samsung's chances to outshine Apple in tablet market by combining both Windows and Android tablet shares.
