With the official release of "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain" only a few weeks away, publisher Konami released screenshots of the game running on the different gaming platforms.
Based on the images, the upcoming game looks good even on last-gen consoles such as the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
As IGN noted, the game's versions for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 are almost identical except for a few noticeable differences. But in terms of visual quality, the PlayStation 3 edition still looks smooth.
This is almost the exact same result with the comparison between the Xbox One and Xbox 360 editions of the game. According to the gaming site, the developers of "The Phantom Pain" were able to achieve a fairly stable visual representation of the game across all platform thanks to the FOX Engine.
Gamespot explained that the last-gen versions of the game run at a resolution of 720p by 30 frames per second. The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One editions, on the other hand, are at 1080p at 60 frames per second.
With the help of FOX Engine, which was designed by development studio Kojima Productions, the developers of the new "Metal Gear Solid" title were able to create a multiplatform game that still maintains its graphic scalability despite running on different consoles.
However, for gamers who are focused on playing the game at its optimum resolution settings, they should get the PC version of it. According to Polygon, the frame rate setting of this edition is similar to that of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. But, the major difference is that the PC edition has a resolution of 3840x2160 pixels.
Although all versions of the game look good, the PC still stands above the rest. Of course, gamers will only get to fully utilize the PC's advantage if their rigs are equipped with the necessary hardware to run the game.
As listed on the game's Steam page, PCs should at least be equipped with the Intel Core i5-4460 processor and 2GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 GPU to play the game on minimum settings.
"Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain," the sequel to "Ground Zeroes," will officially come out for all platforms on Sept. 1.
