Elle Fanning is playing transgender teen named Ramona, who later transforms into Ray in an upcoming indie drama titled "About Ray."
Dakota Fanning's sister will be starring alongside Naomi Watts, Susan Sarandon and Tate Donovan in the film highlighting the challenges a young transgender faces as she transitioned from female to male, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Originally called "Three Generations," the movie by British director Gaby Dellal follows the emotional journey of Ramona to becoming Ray.
Ramona is said to be a boy who was born in a girl's body fighting for permission for a medical transition. Naomi Watts portrays Ramona's single mother, Maggie, while Susan Sarandon plays her lesbian grandmother, Dolly.
In the first trailer of the flick, due out in mid-September, Ray faces conflict in the process when his biological father (Tate Donovan) refuses to sign the parental consent form approving Ray's transition, as per Entertainment Weekly.
"About Ray" is a movie most if not all transgender men and women can relate to since many of the classical elements of trans narratives are present such as misgendering and gender-based harassment.
And while Ray's father is unsupportive of his transition, his mom apparently understands for when Dolly asks Maggie, "Why can't she just be a lesbian?" her great response was "Because she's not a lesbian, mom. She's a boy."
Meanwhile, Elle Fanning seems to be having her hands full lately as it has been reported by Daily Mail that she has landed 10 projects at the same time.
Aside from "About Ray," the "Maleficent" actress is also starring in "The Neon Demon," where Elle portrays a young woman envied by other actresses and models in Hollywood.
Elle Fanning has also signed to appear in the "All the Bright Places" film as Violet (Fanning), a popular high school student who is upset over her older sister's death and connects with a troubled classmate following a chance encounter, according to the Los Angeles Times.
