After being married for 23 years, designer Vera Wang and husband Arthur Becker announced Wednesday that they are getting divorced.
"Vera Wang and Arthur Becker have mutually and amicably agreed to separate. They remain devoted parents to their two daughters," Wang's company president, Mario Grauso, said in a statement.
The pair married in 1989 at the Pierre Hotel in New York and in later years had daughters Cecilia and Josephine.
Prior to Wang's career in fashion, she was initially a figure skater, however when she did not make the Olympic team she decided to pursue another passion. She went on to become the editor of Vogue magazine in 1970, but eventually decided to also give that up once she was denied the editor-in-chief position.
She later became design director for Ralph Lauren women's accessories and at-home wear, while boyfriend Becker was a stockbroker at Bear Stearns & Co.
Becker played a large role in developing Wang's business as he encouraged her get into mass production once Wang opened her signature salon in the Carlyle hotel. He was also very active in her further undertakings throughout the years including bridal, home goods, fragrance lines, and high as well as low end fashion.
The couple's divorce is not expected to affect the business aspect of their relationship however. A friend told WWD that they "will not let this impact the running of the company. They have worked too hard to build it up."
Wang is known for her wedding gowns which have recently been seen on stars like Kim and Khloe Kardashian, as well as Chelsea Clinton and Brooklyn Decker.
