R&B Singer Rihanna made headlines last month for getting her 16th tattoo, one of a falcon shaped like a gun. Now, Pop Singer Miley Cyrus was spotted with her latest ink sported on her arm, however, many have praised her inked quotation by Former President Theodore Roosevelt to hold real significance.
Theodore Roosevelt may have been an inspiration to many of the president that followed him, but Miley Cyrus has shown the world that she has no problem receiving lessons from the late president before her time.
The singer has one of Roosevelt's most famous quotes stamped on her left forearm and it reads:
"So that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who knew neither victory nor defeat."
Cyrus has faced much criticism over the years, including her more mature music that left the "Hannah Montana" persona behind for good, photos and videos that refrences drug use, and the 19-year-old's recent and "too soon" engagement to Actor Liam Hemsworth. The criticism is never ending and it appears that's exactly who Miley's new tat is targeting--her critics.
The quote is taken from the formally titled "Citizenship in a Republic," better known as "The Man in the Arena" speech. The speech was Roosevelt's post-presidential speeches, delivered in Paris during a 1910 global tour.
The speech includes the following memorable lines:
"It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat."
