Michelle Obama: Death Threat, DC Cop Under Investigation

A Washington DC Metropolitan police officer is under investigation by the Secret Service and his own agency for making remarks about shooting First Lady Michelle Obama.

The issue is even more concerning as the First Lady has had personal contact with the officer. He served as a protecting officer for her in the past and has also been one of her motorcycle escorts.

The threat was made on Wednesday but nothing has been directly quoted. The officer however was overheard telling colleagues that he planned on shooting Michelle Obama. He supported the statement with a photo of the firearm he planned on using to carry out the shooting.

The officer's threat was immediately reported to higher officials who, along with the Secret Service, began investigating the officer. The officer is currently placed on administrative duty as the investigation continues.

"There is conflicting information about what the officer said," DC Police Chief Cathy Lanier told NBC4. "Internal Affairs will get to the bottom of it."

The investigation hopes to determine whether the officer's threat to shoot the First Lady holds any weight.

In response to the threat, spokeswoman Gwendolyn Crump commented in an email:

"We received an allegation that inappropriate comments were made. We are currently investigating the nature of those comments."

A threat to the President serves as a class D felony and therefore if the cop is found guilty, he could be facing up to ten years in prison and a fine of up to 250,000.
