"Vampire Diaries" will be out on its seventh run and has enlisted three new interesting characters for the upcoming season sans Nina Dobrev.
The show's co-creator Julie Plec, revealed at TCA Tuesday some details on what they have prepared for fans now that Elena is out of the picture.
"In terms of the show focusing on a single character, we are going to shift from that," Plec told Deadline adding, "we finally have an opportunity to show off the ensemble and make them feel more like the stars of their own show."
Showrunner Plec also dished on the trio that will be joining the rest of the cast of "Vampire Diaries" season 7.
"The heretics, we call them... the three girls are Nora, Mary Louise and Valeria, and they are all amongst Lily's little coven of family who she was stuck in the prison world with," she explained.
"She describes them as magnificent, fierce and wildly nasty. One of the interesting sub-plots involve Mary Louise and Nora who, coming from the 19th and 20th century, have not been able to openly express their love for each other. After missing out on the sexual revolution era, the two ladies are introduced to a more expecting time where they don't have to hide their affection," she added.
And while the series is moving on from the loss of one of its lead character, CW president Mark Pedowitz said the door is always open if Dobrev decides to return someday, according to People.
"We would have loved Nina to stay," he told reporters at a Television Critics Association panel on Tuesday. "She did a great job for the six years she was on the show. She is welcome back any time she wants to come back."
Meanwhile, with the success of "Originals," which is a spin-off of the show about the Mikaelson family returning home to New Orleans, it has been rumoured that a second series based on the vampire characters is being considered by The CW, Cinema Blend has learned.
However, Plec, who runs both "The Vampire Diaries" and "The Originals" and is also taking on the new series drama "Containment," addressed the rumor saying, "I don't think I could actually do four shows — I'll be very honest about that."
"The Vampire Diaries" Season 7 returns October 8 on The CW.
