Intense new episodes are expected as "Castle" Season 8 premieres this fall. With the shocking departure of Penny Johnson Jerald's character, Captain Victoria Gates, in the previous season, fans will definitely be left baffled as changes shake things up in the series.
As unexpected twists cause more conflicts in the lives of crime-busting couple Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion) and Kate Beckett (Stana Katic) in "Castle" Season 8, here are 5 interesting details about the upcoming premiere of the crime drama series.
1. Premiere Date
The premiere date of the eighth season has been finally announced and it will be on Monday, Sept. 21 at 10 p.m. on ABC. The series will kick off after Castle accepted the "Poe's Pen" career achievement award and Beckett found herself at a professional crossroads, ABC noted.
2. New Cast
Toks Olagundoye will be one of the new characters in the series. According to Venture Capital Post, she will be introduced as Hayley Shipton in the first episode entitled "XY." Adam Baldwin, on the other hand, will return as Detective Ethan Slaughter, who was first introduced in the fourth season of the show. While the reason for his return is still unrevealed, one thing is sure though, he will be seen early in the season.
Additionally, it was rumored that Slaughter's arrival would have something to do with the Beckett's new role as the next captain in the precinct. As speculated, Slaughter fits the bill to be the new NYPD detective.
3. Beckett's Promotion
Beckett will be promoted as a captain of the NYPD in "Castle" Season 8. Unfortunately, her promotion will ignite some troubles in her relationship with Castle, as previously reported.
"At the end of the day, what we were trying to do was shake up relationships," "Castle" creator Alexi Hawley said. "The show has been doing a great job with what's it's been doing, but now we've been given an opportunity to really sort of add some energy into it."
While "Castle" Season 8 executive producer Terence Paul Winter also shared some exciting scoops regarding Beckett's character change.
"What's exciting about that dynamic is that she's not going to be a traditional captain who is in the office," Winter said, as Breathecast quoted. "She's boots on the ground. She's still Beckett. She's going to be handling cases and she's going to be involved in the interrogation."
4. Castle's Daughter
Another interesting change to watch out for in "Castle" Season 8 is Rick's daughter, Alexis (Molly C. Quinn), who will grow up a big way and may have a "little sex in the city" thing in the show.
5. Castle's Other Woman
Since bigger conflicts loom after the changes in "Castle" Season 8, Beckett will struggle to play by the rules as being the precinct's new boss. But Castle will find himself working more with Hayley Shipton, Entertainment Weekly has learned. Will Shipton come between Castle and Beckett's relationship?
"For us, her character was never meant to be competition," Hawley said. "She's a strong, powerful, beautiful, independent woman and she adds a flavor of that into the show, but is not — in any way shape or form — competition for Beckett."
