"Fresh Off The Boat" fans can rejoice even more because not only has their favorite show been renewed, it will also feature a '90s basketball icon when it returns to the small screen this fall. Shaquille O'Neal has been confirmed to appear on the series, so basketball fans should watch out for him.
According to Color Lines, "Fresh Off The Boat" show producer Melvin Mar broke the news at the Asian American Journalists Association's conference last Saturday in San Francisco.
Writer Phil Yu, who was in attendance at the said national event, quickly took to Twitter account, named Angry Asian Man, to announce the good news to fans of the show and fans of the basketball player.
"Confirmed: Shaquille O'Neal will guest star on the second season of #FreshOffTheBoat," Yu wrote.
The show producer also said during the conference that he is pleased with the diversity changes that is happening in Hollywood.
"It's great to be able to have a voice in mainstream media. You know and you're right, the stereotype is we're doctors and lawyers and such and that's great, but it's a new frontier. It's exciting and it's very exciting that it's being embraced," Mar was quoted as saying by ABC 7 News.
"Fresh Off The Boat," which stars Randall Park, Constance Wu, Hudson Yang, Forrest Wheeler, Ian Chen, Lucille Soong, Jillian Armenante and Paul Scheer, is based on the memoirs written by American restaurateur Eddie Huang. The show has received a lot of praise for its humorous depictions of Asian American family life.
Meanwhile, Broadway World has already leaked the synopsis of the first two episodes of the show entitled "Home Sweet Home-School" and "Fajita Man."
"Louis and Jessica clash over how to raise the kids and how to run the restaurant. When the boys get straight A's in school, Jessica decides that their school must be too easy and takes it upon herself to give them more homework and tutor them after class. She takes the same strict approach at the restaurant (no extra croutons for anyone!), so it's up to Louis to get her to lighten up on everyone," read the synopsis of "Home Sweet Home-School"
On the other hand, the synopsis of "Fajita Man" reads: "Eddie is so desperate for a new video game named after his idol, Shaq, he goes to work at the restaurant. He expects special treatment since he's the boss's son, but is in for a surprise when Louis is determined to make him work hard for the money. Meanwhile, Jessica decides to look for a job of her own."
Guest stars to watch out for when the second season premieres include Noel Gugliemi, Rachel Cannon, Trevor Larcom, Stacey Scowley, Connor Rosen and Evan Hannemann, among others.
"Fresh Off The Boat" Season 2 is set to premiere on Sept. 22, on ABC.
