Liam Payne a homophobe? This is actually what some fans thought of after the One Directioner offered some semi-sweet words while introducing his favorite song from 1D's all-new album. Now the 21-year-old wants to clear his name and stop the hate thrown at him on social media by finally speaking out on what he really meant when he said girls do not know what's it's like to find the right woman on Tuesday.
In an attempt to address and clarify the homophobic issue, Payne went on a Twitter tirade to express his thoughts and the things he want to say to people bashing him for allegedly being indifferent to girls who also like girls, reported MTV.
"I am in no way shape or form homophobic," Zayn Malik's former bandmate wrote on Twitter before adding, "that's a ridicules (sic) thing to say and I'm not here to offend people so take it as you will."
Payne also claimed that there isn't actually a big issue on what he said, insisting that he is not to comment anymore since many people nowadays take things quite literally.
Two days ago, Payne ignited an online buzz when he introduced One Direction's "Girl Almighty" to a Columbus, Ohio crowd. At the time he said, "It is about trying to find that number one woman of your life, which none of you can relate to because most of you are girls. Except for the boys in here, you know what I'm talking about," as quoted by People.
Following his statement, many took to social media to slam him for allegedly being homophobic. Some critics even gave strong opinions against the singer. But Liam proved to be tough as he did defend himself from all the harsh comments and even acknowledged that he may have offended some people out there.
"I'm sorry to those I offended really I am but there's no need for some of the things I'm being called," Payne tweeted, as per Yahoo! TV. "I'm just here to make people smile I kinda consider it my job role," he added.
The homophobic clamor surrounding Liam Payne isn't the first as he was previously under fire for showing support to the "Duck Dynasty" patriarch who claimed that homosexuality is a "sin."
Back then, Louis Tomlinson's bandmate also defended himself on Twitter saying, "Being a fan of someones (sic) show and the way they still hold a family together doesnt (sic) mean i am OK with all they say."
While the issue continues to plague Payne, his and his band's fans have been doing their best to stand by him and 1D by showing their incessant support online, which explains why the hashtag #WeLoveYouLiam was trending on Twitter worldwide on Wednesday.
