Janet Jackson is reportedly "furious" that her niece, Paris, daughter of her late brother Michael Jackson, has decided to start acting.
Paris, 14, accepted the role last December in the film "Lundon's Bridge and the Three Keys," which is due to release in 2014.
According to US Weekly, Jackson "feels it goes against Michael's wishes to keep his kids out of the limelight until age 18."
Jackson thinks it is too early for Paris to begin an acting career, saying she needs more time to enjoy her youth. Jackson has also entertained the idea of Paris going to college as well. Regardless of what Paris plans to do in her later teens, Jackson believes that she should wait until that time to start any kind of career at all.
Janet said, "You're only a child once. I think she is entering the spotlight so soon."
People are skeptical of Jackson's disapproval, as she started an acting career at age 7.
"We've spoken about the fact that you're only a child once," Janet told Prevention magazine in May. "I think there's a time for everything, and now is not the time [to act in films]. I told her I thought she should enjoy being a kid, possibly go to college-or not-but wait till she turns 18. She's a very tough, smart girl. But it's a cutthroat industry. I wouldn't want my child to do it."
Despite her aunt's disapproval, Paris hopes that her new role will help her reach the level of fame her father once had.
Paris told Ellen DeGeneres, "When I was really little, my dad was in the movie 'Moonwalker' and I knew he could sing really well, but I didn't know he could act. I saw that and I said, 'Wow, I want to be just like him.'"
