"The Flash" fans are really excited for the return of the hit CW series for its seventh season. Unbeknownst to them a new character may be taking over the titular role and could be replacing Barry Allen for good.
If the show is to follow the comic books, Barry Allen's demise is set to happen in "The Flash" season 2. As per James Friel's post on Quora, Allen is going to get killed but will be restored to life as part of the "Speed Force." However, following his death, Wally West aka Kid Flash is set to inherit the mantle of The Flash, according to Screen Rant.
"Insurgent" actor Keiynan Lonsdale has already been revealed to be the actor portraying Wally West, and his introduction into the series may be considered part of the expansion of DC characters on the show.
Lonsdale has been cast to be a series regular as per a Variety report, so this could mean that he is bound to be the major player in show while Barry Allen is dead. Moreover, he is also set to appear in the "Arrow" spinoff show "DC's Legends of Tomorrow."
Speaking of Lonsdale's casting, show exec Andrew Kreisberg said, "Just like when we met Grant [Gustin] for the first time, we instantly knew Keiynan embodied all the heart and courage of a hero. We are so excited to be bringing this much-beloved character onto the show," as quoted by Entertainment Weekly.
However, there isn't actually a valid reason for Barry Allen fans to fear the changes that are to happen when the new season airs. Grant Gustin's character will remain as the titular scarlet speedster, and, interestingly, familiar faces who died in the first season could actually be returning to Central City.
During the San Diego Comic Con International panel for "The Flash," Gustin revealed that the series is headed to introducing a multiverse to avid viewers. He was quoted by Comicbook to have said, "We have a multiverse, so anyone who's died could potentially come back to the show."
Other characters to watch out for in the upcoming season include "Masters of Sex" alum Teddy Sears' Jay Garrick, Wrestler Edge's Atom Smasher and "The Messengers" alum Shantel VanSanten's Patty Spivot, who is said to be Barry's new love interest, Screen Crush has learned. Fans should also watch out for the introduction of Kimiyo Hoshi aka Doctor Light.
"The Flash" Season 2 is to hit the small screen on Oct. 6 on The CW. On the other hand, "DC's Legends of Tomorrow" is to premiere in early 2016.
