Google News: Feature To Share Snaps Of Your Meal On Maps Launched For Testing

It has become quite a routine for people to take photos of their meal and upload them to social media sites commonly with the hash tag "Foodporn." The number of people doing this has been growing, and apparently, that did not go unnoticed by Google.

Good news to "foodographers!" Google is now working on a feature on Maps where you can upload food-related snaps.

This feature will notify users when Google Maps app found a new photo taken at restaurants and other food establishments. The feature will offer the users to attach the photo, upload it on Maps (for a specific location) for other users to view, according to Android Police.

At this moment, the feature is still being tested. Thus, its availablability is only for Local Guides at level three and above — people have provided at least 50 reviews as part of Google's Local Guides program, The Verge reported.

An email was sent to Local Guides, including this Google Support link that says, "Maps for mobile Help." It gives the user steps how to manage the notifications.

This isn't the first time that the company tested a "foodography" service. Back in February, Gizmodo reported a leak of a new Google App called Tablescape, which was described as a new social networking site for food.

The app was shut down in June and according to the reports that surfaced online, Google said it would invest on other projects. However, the company did not completely trash the idea, saying that Tablescape's influence might be seen in future apps.

Google Maps is primarily designed to help users locate places and establishments where they want to go. In the search field, the name of the place or the establishment can be keyed in, and within just a few seconds, Maps will provide directions how to get there.

The application is already pre-installed in all Android devices, as per The Rem. However, users also have the option to uninstall it in the Google Play Store.

Imagine how cool it would be to add a "Tablescape"-like feature on Google Maps.
