According Demos Parneros, president of U.S. retail for Staples Inc, which sells the Kindle Fire tablet, "Amazon is to introduce up to five or six tablet SKUs, or stock-keeping units," reports Reuters. The report has disclosed that Parneros has confirmed that the Kindle Fire tablets will vary in size, and will include at least one 10-inch tablet model.
As per report, analysts, developers and retail partners said ahead of results next week from the world's largest Internet retailer that Amazon.com is prepping up to expand its mobile platform and broaden its offering of devices beyond e-readers and the Kindle Fire tablet.
Past reports from BGR also supported the same, when they informed that Amazon is prepping at least two new Kindle Fire tablets, a new 10-inch model and an updated 7-inch tablet with a redesigned case. Moreover, a separate report suggested that Amazon will launch new Kindle Fire slates early next month.
Also, earlier reports were cited by Taiwan Economic News that Amazon is looking to launch three new tablets this year, ranging from low- to high-end models in terms of price brackets and specifications. Their report said that the three models will come as a low-end 7-inch model with a resolution of 1024× 600 screen display, a medium-end 7-inch version with resolution of 1280 × 800 screen and an 8.9-inch version with resolution of 1920 × 1200 pixels display.
Even recently, Richard Shim, an analyst at NPD DisplaySearch, said Amazon will bring out at least three new Kindle Fire models. Shim got the information from sources in the "supply chain" -- a collection of companies that manufacture components and assemble products.
In his report, Shim claimed that supply chain data pointed to a 7-inch Kindle Fire 2 with a 1,024x600 display and no camera, and another featuring a 1,280x800 display and a camera, both of which would be ready for August. He also suggested that another 7-inch Kindle Fire 2 tablet featuring a 1,280x800 display, camera and 4G will begin production in September, followed by larger 8.9-inch Kindle Fire 2 variant kitted out with a 1,920x1,200 display, which Shim revealed is set for production later in the year.
According to Shim, the new Kindle Fire 2 tablets will have displays that feature a pixel density of 216 pixels per inch (PPI), identical to that of the Nexus 7 but lower than the 264 PPI found on the iPad 3.
There was no information disclosed from DisplaySearch on pricing or processors. However, a past report said that the device may come powered by either Texas Instruments OMAP processors or Nvidia's widely used quad-core Tegra 3 chip.
