NFL superstar Chad Ochocinco has officially changed his last name from Ochocinco back to Johnson.
Ironically, Chad's website, Ochocinco News Network (OCNN), was the first to report the name change.
"Chad Ochocinco has officially changed his name back to Chad Johnson," OCNN reported on Monday morning. "The main reason behind the name change was due to his marriage to Evelyn Lozada. The couple preferred Evelyn's last name to be a real name and not the fun "Ochocinco" character we have come to love."
According to NFL.com's Jeff Darlington, Johnson started the name change several days after his wedding and had completed the $401 change early Monday.
The name change follows other recent changes made in the football player's life. Aside from his new role as a husband, Chad was recently cut by the New England Patriots and signed by the Miami Dolphins in June. People are hoping now that Chad is himself again, at least name-wise, that he will start playing like his old self too.
Here are Chad's numbers as Chad Johnson versus him as Chad Ochocinco:
- As Chad Johnson(7 seasons): 80 rec., 1,195 yards, 7 TDs
- As Chad Ochocinco(4 seasons): 52 rec., 674 yards, 5 TDs
