Country star Luke Bryan holds on to the U.S. Billboard 200 top spot as his album "Kill The Lights" is still the best-selling and the album to beat for two weeks in a row.
Country music continues to dominate America as Bryan's fifth studio album, "Kill The Lights" has now reportedly sold 83,000 copies, 114,000 songs and was streamed 6.8 million times, resulting into a total tally of 99,000 units sold in its second week in the market after its successful launch, according to Reuters. Nielsen SoundScan also claimed that Bryan's album has sold a combined total of 403,824 copies for two weeks.
Luke Bryan's album narrowly beats its closest competitor, Ed Sheeran's 2014 album "X" — known for its hit song "Thinking Out Loud".
Sheeran's album was enjoying a revival as it reportedly sold 97,000 units in its 60th week on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart.
As per CMT, in an era of diminished expectations for recorder music, Luke Bryan continues to dominate the competition as it both topped the Billboard 200 country and all-genre charts.
Despite the publicity from the movie "Straight Outta Compton," Dr. Dre's comeback album "Compton" only managed to secure the number three spot with sales of 51,00 units.
Other artists who entered the top 10 were "The Voice" contestant Melanie Martinez at Number 6 with her debut "Cry Baby" which sold a generous 40,000 units. The numbers may not appear as big, but for a debut album, it really is a feat to behold.
If you think Emo music is gone, you better think again as the band Bullet For My Valentine debuts a new album aptly named "Venom." Selling 28,000 units, it gets a good hold at the number 8 spot.
Will Luke Bryan continue to dominate the U.S. Billboard 200 spot for the third consecutive week? Given the number of the physical album sales, it's a big possibility.
