Derrick Rose, star player of Chicago Bulls, who is the designated point guard of the team has been thrust into the limelight recently as he faced allegations of rape by an ex-girlfriend. Despite that, the 2011 NBA MVP maintained he is innocent of the charges.
Derrick Rose was under fire as a lawsuit against him and two of his friends, claimed that two years ago they drugged and gang raped Rose's ex-girlfriend.
CNN reported the NBA star's representative said the accusations were "completely false and without any factual basis," adding that the charges were "a desperate attempt to shake down a highly respected and successful athlete."
The lawsuit stated that the victim, called "Jane Doe," alleged that in August of 2013, while she was at the home of Rose in Beverly Hills, he and his two friends put something in her drink. A female friend of "Jane" called a cab to send her home as she was worried about her weakened state.
However, the Bulls player and his two buddies went to her apartment the next morning, entered her unlocked door in her apartment and took turns sexually abusing her. In continuation of the lawsuit, "Jane" said she did not report the incident to the police when she became conscious for the reason that she was "ashamed and embarrassed by what had happened to her" and also she did not want her conventional family to discover what happened to her.
"Jane" has very little recollection of the events that followed given her incapacitated state of consciousness, with a recollection of only few second flashes at a time," stated the lawsuit. "However, 'Jane' does recall brutal details of the rape."
Los Angeles Times revealed that Derrick Rose issued a statement via his publicist that stated he's "focusing on staying healthy and getting ready for the season."
The 2011 NBA MVP added: "I am not going to comment other than to say: I know the truth, and am confident I will be proven innocent."
Mark Baute, his attorney, acknowledged that fact that his client and "Jane" had a long sexual relationship.
The statement from his lawyer further read, "Mr. Rose was in a non-exclusive, consensual sexual relationship with the plaintiff for over two years. The plaintiff expressed no complaints about Mr. Rose until various lawyers began to surface and demand that the plaintiff be paid millions of dollars. This is the third lawyer the plaintiff has retained in this matter."
"Two years have passed since Mr. Rose ended the consensual relationship with the plaintiff, and her claims are as meritless now as they were two years ago. We have complete confidence that the case will be dismissed and that Mr. Rose will be vindicated. This lawsuit is outrageous."
Meanwhile, Chicago Bulls issued a short message regarding the allegations against its own point guard Derrick Rose. The statement detailed, "We just learned about this matter and do not know all the facts. It would be inappropriate to comment further at this time,'' as per Chicago Sun Times.
