"Sailor Moon Crystal" Season 2 is being anticipated by many fans after the show successfully wrapped up its freshman run. Has the anime series reboot been renewed? This is the question avid Sailor Moon fans want answered.
Apparently, there's still no word on "Sailor Moon Crystal" Season 2 being renewed by Toei Animation for a sophomore run, despite previous confirmation reports that turned out to be erroneous. The latest news about the successful female-led animation series still centers on its 20th anniversary. Since its finale on July 18, Toei has remained mum on the possibility of the reboot getting a second season.
Though loyal moonies are hopeful, some are still doubting the return of the remake, which was actually a strict adaptation of the manga by "Sailor Moon" creator Naoko Takeuchi. As per Rotoscopers, the 26-episode "Sailor Moon Crystal" Season 1 did not really get the reception its makers were after after it debuted with strong figures but struggled to maintain the rating episode after episode. The show reportedly lost 70 percent of its viewership after its pilot episode, which is really disappointing given the excitement fans had when it was revealed that the series was getting a remake.
Despite the low ratings, Fashion&Style has reported that the show still deserves to get a second run provided that Toei Animation increases production value. "Sailor Moon Crystal" Season 1 was allegedly outsourced to studios in the Philippines and in China. Although the series managed to deliver the storyline efficiently, the animation quality was reportedly so bad major fixes were done to package it for Blu-ray.
There is also an issue with the remake's pacing since it's based on the manga, and iO9 said that if this were to be fixed, perhaps the Toei Animation series could get the viewership it wants and needs.
Meanwhile, the 12th Blu-ray volume of the "Sailor Moon Crystal" series is already out, and the cover has received a lot of attention since it features Chibi-Usa's evil alter-ego, Black Lady. Fans who are planning on purchasing the release will surely be glad to know that it comes with a 24-page booklet and the Sailor Moon's Crystal Star brooch charm.
The limited edition, which is valued at $57 (7,020 yen), also includes commentary from Sailor Mercury voice actor Hisako Kanemoto, Sailor Jupiter voice actor Ami Koshimizu, Sailor Mars voice actor Rina Satou and director Munehisa Sakai, AnimeNewsNetwork has learned.
