Jeremy Lin, Charlotte Hornets' new guard, will reportedly be teamed up with Kemba Walker for a maximum defense strategy. Head coach Steve Clifford said that he would be rotating the players, and admitted that it would be a trial-and-error process to see which of the players will work well together.
Coach Clifford was asked by Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer what the vision was for the Jeremy Lin-Kemba Walker combination. During the Q&A, the coach described the gameplay as similar with Golden State Warriors, NBC Sports reported.
"It's always good to have two pick-and-roll players on the floor," he told The Charlotte Observer. "That way you can put pressure on the defense at one side, then switch it to the other."
He explained that Steph Curry was loading up the defense on one side and Klay Thompson would operate on the other.
"That's what Kemba can do for Jeremy and Jeremy can do for Kemba," he continued.
Clifford seems to be fascinated with the Curry-Thompson duo, and so is Lin. He did not exactly say it that it was with the team-up itself, but with the NBA's 2015 MVP.
The 27-year-old player expressed his fascination with Curry to his shooting coach, Doc Scheppler. He and Lin watched the NBA finals' game together, HoopsHabit.com learned.
"Jeremy would watch Curry and he'd say to me, 'I want to shoot quick and efficiently with my release like him,'" Scheppler shared.
Lin's NBA career went rocky this past three years, but the shooting coach is assured that the recent decision he made in signing up with the Hornets will change for the better. Scheppler said that one of the reasons why Lin signed up for the team was because of Coach Clifford himself.
Scheppler believed that Clifford understood sound principles and he is convinced of his capabilities of bringing out the best from Lin. Fans may not see the "Linsanity" back, but the shooting coach said that he will be more productive in the game.
