Although not as big as Pinterest, social networking site The Fancy has gained enough buzz and recognition to be in talks of being purchased by technology's God company, Apple. According to undisclosed sources speaking to Business Insider's Owen Thomas, Apple is supposedly contemplating purchasing the social networking site.
The fancy is a social photo sharing website and app. It defines itself as a store and a blog. Users use a tool known as the "bookmarklet" in their web browesers. When they see something that they like on another site, they can click the image, describe it, then add it to their personal feeds, where it is automatically linked back to the page it was found.
In August 2011, had secured a $10 million round of financing from lead investor Pinault Printemps Redoute, the $16 billion French multi-national that owns Gucci, Bottega Veneta, Yves Saint Laurant and Balenciaga.
The difference between The Fancy and Pinterest is; Pinterest is focused on posting, tagging and sharing. The Fancy, instead has developed a way to earn revenue through the sites interaction with users. If a user likes somethings, the can purchase it directly from the website and The fancy gets 10 percents of the sales.
According to a July report by Business Insider's Alyson Shontell, The Fancy delivers approximately $10,000 per day in sales - as well as one million users who "Fancy" items on the site around 500,000 times daily.
Apple has not yet announced what their willing to pay for the Fancy, nor any indication that the talks of buying the company will ever actually come into play.
