"How To Train Your Dragon 3" will once again delight young and old alike with its gripping tale of a boy befriending a ferocious dragon. Latest plot updates, however, revealed Toothless and Hiccup may part ways as this will be the last movie of the dragon saga.
Movie News Guide reported that instead of a plotline that will make viewers and fans alike leaving theaters in tears, "How To Train Your Dragon 3" will be the best among the other two previous movies in the franchise and that the children will get their happy ending.
Writer and director Dean DeBlois hinted at the possibility that the upcoming dragon movie will apparently highlight the end of Toothless and Hiccup's friendship. The script, already laid on the table suggested that Toothless and the dragons would go on each other's separate ways. Hiccup would be presented as a full grown adult character, able to survive on his own, and which has matured throughout the aftermath of losing his father in the second movie "How To Train Your Dragon 2."
DeBlois stated, "I'm also playing with the idea of what happened to the dragons and why they are no more. So the whole mystery of where did they go? Did they come back? What transpired? I think it's all compelling stuff and it's definitely a story that's gonna have a lot more Toothless emphasis in it."
So, will this be the last movie that fans will see of Toothless?
According to Collider, the initial prospect for the "How To Train Your Dragon" franchise was just a trilogy and that a vision for a fourth installment would be nil. DeBlois said the upcoming "How To Train Your Dragon 3" will be the last but does not remove the possibility of a spinoff.
He said he has talked Jeffrey Katzenberg out of the idea for a fourth movie. "There may be spinoffs to come, but my involvement and my dedication to completing a story that has a reason for being and a strong sense of integrity and three chapters I think is in place and intact. Everybody seems to be in agreement that we're moving in the right direction."
Screen Rant has revealed that a few years has passed since the last "How To Train Your Dragon" was shown and fans are anticipating about the age of Hiccup. Will he now be a middle-aged bearded version or still an energetic youth? DeBlois has allayed the fears of many fans when he said that both Hiccup and Toothless are now chiefs of their tribes.
"It's a dueling story where you have both characters trying to do what's right for their kind, and an eventual outcome where Hiccup is able to stand on his own. We're gonna take the story to where the books begin, which is Hiccup as an adult reflecting back on a time where there were dragons, suggesting that the dragons will in some way go away. Why and could they come back and the mystery of what all that is will be saved for the actual story," ended DeBlois.
"How To Train Your Dragon 3" is slated for release on June 29, 2018.
