"Jeepers Creepers" fans are still clamoring for its third installment entitled, "Jeepers Creepers 3: Cathedral," despite production updates remain elusive. Now, after almost half a decade of silence, let's take a look on why the third sequel of the mythical cornfield creature's saga is still not happening soon.
For years, Victor Salva has been working to get "Jeepers Creepers 3 Cathedral," which is the third installment of his "Jeepers Creepers" film series, off the ground. However, it is quite surprising that Salva is finding it difficult since the second film had grossed $63 million worldwide, under a $17 million budget, IMDB noted. And though he failed to make the flapping Creeper as an iconic antagonist, his first two films earned a solid fanbase.
While "Jeepers Creepers 3: Cathedral" plot, casting and production details remain unknown, Salva allegedly gave an interesting statement.
"There may finally be some very good news for those waiting for the third 'Jeepers' film to go before the cameras," Salva said.
Unfortunately, the reports on "Jeepers Creepers 3: Cathedral" IMDB page appeared to be just rumors, which even franchise mastermind Salva slammed the news, causing elation and devastation among horror movie fans.
"It has come close several times to going before the camera, and I hope someone sees the wisdom in shooting this," Salva said, as previously reported. "According to IMDB we already started shooting; I guess they started without us."
The third installment in the "Jeepers Creepers" series is slated for a 2015 release, however, filming has not started yet though the script is reportedly ready. And speaking of script, "Jeepers Creepers 3: Cathedral" will reportedly depict the origins of the Creeper almost two decades after its first film and will continue the original film's story with Trish, who has now a son named Darry. It will also feature the infamous Creeper truck.
Meanwhile, the delay of "Jeepers Creepers 3: Cathedral," which is also rumored to be released as a straight-to-DVD movie, is apparently due to its failure to secure financing for the film. According to Horror Society, MGM Entertainment, the company that is reportedly backing the project, has been out because of debts and loans.
Since "Jeepers Creepers 3: Cathedral" remains at a standstill, fundraising appears to be the only hope for the film's release.
So, to all "Jeepers Creepers" fans out there, would you donate to a "Jeepers Creepers 3: Cathedral" fundraising campaign?
