Judy Carne Death - The 'Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In" actress has reportedly died last week. Although there is no official word on her cause of death as of late, newspaper reports pointed out that she was suffering from pneumonia prior her demise.
Northampton General Hospital spokeswoman Eva Duffy was the one who confirmed the passing of the British actress on Tuesday, exactly five days after she died in the hospital, according to Fox News.
Carne was best known for her "Sock It To Me" phrase when she appeared on the hit comedy show, which ran from 1967 to 1973 on NBC. The phrase was really popular at the time that even former vice president Richard Nixon uttered it in his guest appearance on the smash hit series in Sept. 1968.
Carne was made popular by the phrase since her utterance of the words would mean that her character would suffer from humiliating instances, such as being doused in water and taking pratfalls, as per USA Today.
Carne was not the only cast member who was catapulted to fame by the comedy series. Goldie Hawn and Lily Tomlin also became famous for their appearances on "Laugh-In."
Despite the success of the series since it started airing, Carne decided to leave in the show's third season. The reasons of her departure were very vague, but the media noted that her career quickly fell down a slope and she got heavily involved in the use of drugs, Daily Mail has learned.
Judy Carne (nee Joyce Botterill) was born in Northampton. She started her TV career in the 1950s in England before she moved to the United States.
In the wake of her death, comedian Ruth Buzzi tweeted: "A lovely English bird of comedy has left her Earthly nest and flown away with a piece of history and (sic) our hearts. Rest in peace, Judy Carne."
