A resume is a document with a written compilation of work, experience, education, accomplishments and credentials used to apply for jobs. According to CareerMiner, it is an important piece of any job application because it carries out the first impression your possible employer will have of you.
But how exactly will you make your resume an attention grabber? MoneyTalkNews and Association for Talent Development shared tips on how you could make your resume shine.
1. Highlight the skills you have your potential employer wants. You only have few minutes to grab your potential employer's attention. Maximize that.
2. Include your greatest accomplishments. Your accomplishments will give your employer a clearer view of what you can contribute to their company.
3. Don't try to impress employers by changing the details of your resume. Your resume is a mirror of yourself so make your image clean.
4. Create a crisp and clean visual presentation for your resume. Start by creating margins. Don't make your content so crowded. Also don't forget to create margins around it. Use fonts that are easy to read like Times New Roman and Arial with 11- or 12- font size. Only use concise bulleted statements for your content.
5. Don't get too personal. Don't include references that focus on your personal issues like family or religion. Your recruiter is more interested with how you will do well in their company and not on your personal life.
6. Personalize your resume. Don't rely on online resume templates. By doing so, you're giving your recruiter an impression that you can never be productive and efficient for their company. If you can't invest a little of your time for your resume, then how can you become a responsible part of their company?
7. Don't forget to include a reference footer at the end of your resume. Other people tend to delete this part thinking it will only be available upon request. But a potential employer would think this is readily available so don't disappoint them.
Don't put the years of hard work and study in vain. Present your resume in the best way possible. Something that could stand out from the competitive job market we are in today.
