Earlier this year, British author Paula Hawkins rose to fame after her psychological thriller novel "The Girl on the Train" became the fastest-selling adult novel in history. Now, after the acquisition of its film rights last year, it is reportedly set to debut in the silver screen next year.
Since updates on "The Girl on the Train" are currently quite elusive, we are sharing 6 things we know so far about the upcoming movie adaptation.
1. "The Girl on the Train" Cast
Emily Blunt, Haley Bennett and Rebecca Ferguson are among the lead stars of the upcoming movie adaptation. According to Fashion & Style, they will be portraying the roles of Rachel Watson, Megan Hipwell and Ana respectively. As for male leads, the film's IMDB message boards are full of speculations on who will be playing the male characters since no names have been confirmed yet. And among the male celebs mentioned are Luke Evans, Henry Cavill, Dan Stevens, Mads Mikkelsen, Ryan Gosling, Jamie Dornan and Jack Huston.
2. Setting
In July, "The Girl on the Train" author Paula Hawkins reported that the setting of the film would be moved from England, as it was written in the book, to the United States, The Guardian noted.
3. Storyline
"'The Girl on the Train' follows the story of a woman named Rachel, who goes on a train to London," the story read, as per its IMDB page. "She witnesses the 'perfect' couple. Scott and Megan. But one day, havoc ensues this couple, and Rachel becomes involved in their drama/murder mystery of Megan Hipwell."
4. Production Company, Director and Crew
The film rights for the novel were acquired by Dreamworks on Mar. 24, 2014 with Marc Platt set to produce, while Jared Leboff will serve as executive producer, Variety has learned. And in May, it was announced that "The Help" director Tate Taylor would be directing the film based on a script written by Erin Cressida Wilson.
5. Cast Trivia
Kate Mara and Margot Robbie were reportedly considered to play the role of Megan. Unfortunately, they dropped out and was replaced by Haley Bennett.
6. "The Girl on the Train" Release Date
No release date has been announced yet about the film adaptation, as Entertainment Weekly reported. However, it is believed that the film will be set for release in 2016.
