Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder's real-life romance may have been key to the success of The CW's "The Vampire Diaries." However, their relationship has long been over. Still, many fans can't get over the fact their favorite on- and off-cam couple is living separate lives with respective partners — Dobrev is dating Austin Stowell while Somerhalder's married to Nikki Reed.
Despite the relationships they are sharing with their respective partners, some fans continue to link Dobrev to Somerhalder and vice versa. Interestingly, last Saturday, another person got into the never-ending equation of love and hate speculations between Dobrev and Somerhalder, and it is no other than Kat Graham.
Graham plays Bonnie in "Vampire Diaries" and her character was the best friend of Dobrev's Elena Gilbert. In real life, the two actresses were also said to be good friends. However, it seems that Graham has found another BFF in Somerhalder's wife. On the 26th birthday of the Swiss-born American actress, Reed took the time to post a sweet photo of her and Graham on Instagram and greet the latter with a short but meaningful message as caption to the snap.
"Happy birthday to this beautiful zen goddess. Kat, you have touched many lives, you have made many smile. Your heart is so open, so willing to love while also knowing how to love yourself. Your truth is always heard, and your inability to stray from that is remarkable. I love you sweet lady. To say I am grateful for you is an understatement. The world is blessed to have you. @katgrahampics," Reed, who as per Variety recently bought a Venice contemporary estate for $2.58 million with her hubby, wrote in her post which received more than sixty thousand likes from her followers.
Although the post was intended to show her good relationship to her husband's costar, it seems that some fans couldn't help but compare Dobrev and Reed yet again. Good thing Reed's supporters came to her defense in the face of Nina fans giving their two cents that the ex-"TVD" star is a whole lot better than the "Twilight" star.
Instagram user amari_linson even pointed out the obvious amid the online exchange between fans of the two actresses: "Lol its alright alot of ppl bash nikki cause of what happened. Its very dumb cause everybodys over it except the fans (sic)."
Meanwhile, though Dobrev may appear to have forgotten to greet Graham on her special day via Instagram or Twitter, the actress seemed to be unfazed by the fan wars every now and then. She continues to update her social media accounts with throwback photos and meaningful posts. She even promoted her latest project "The Final Girls," which is set to hit theaters on Oct. 9, on Instagram.
As for Graham, she previously admitted that her co-actor’s departure from the series was “very bittersweet,” so this could mean that she is on good terms with Somerhalder's ex. The actress was even quoted as saying by Us Weekly: “We’re all family, and you always want to stay together forever, but everyone has their journey, and all you can do is wish them well and support them. This was a decision that I know was made a long, long time ago. I’m just excited for her, and to see what’s next.”
Also, it seems that "Vampire Diaries" is also doing just fine without its lead actress. Kaitlin Thomas of TV.com even noted that from the looks of the new season's promotional clip, the Mystic Falls characters are moving on, even Damon is making jokes despite the new dangers that await him and the gang in the all-new season.
There is even the noticeable shift from the love story-centric storyline to one that simply focuses on the Salvatore brothers and the rest of the characters. Damon and Stefan's mother, Lily, is also around, so this could perhaps bring in a more family-centered theme to the series just like its spinoff, "The Originals."
