“Captain Marvel” is slated for a 2018 release in the United States. As early as now, the rumor mill is abuzz with names of actresses who best fit the titular heroine. Below are four actresses who could nail the portrayal of Captain Marvel.
1. Rebecca Ferguson
After starring alongside Tom Cruise in "Mission Impossible - Rogue Nation," 31-year-old Rebecca Ferguson is making headlines this week for being the frontrunner among the actresses who could play the titular superheroine in "Captain Marvel."
HeroicHollywood reported that Ferguson could already be considering the part after she bowed out of playing the female lead in Channing Tatum's "Gambit." However, it is still to early to tell if she is indeed leading the upcoming Marvel franchise.
2. Katheryn Winnick
Katheryn Winnick is also a good fit to play Captain Marvel after she nailed her role as Lagertha in The History Channel's breakout cable TV series "Vikings." Winnick even got a nod from the Canadian Screen Awards for her "Vikings Role"; hence, she got nominated for Best performance by a Lead Dramatic Actress in 2014.
The 37-year-old actress can also deliver high-intensity action to the movie if she were tapped to play the part since she's a skilled martial artist and has got a black belt to prove it. In a guest appearance on "The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson," Winnick even revealed that she started to learn martial arts at the age of 7 and got her black belt at 13.
3. Ronda Rousey
The next actress on this list does not come as a surprise since she herself admitted she's been itching to land the role. In August, MMA fighter Ronda Rousey was asked via a Reddit AMA about which superhero she'd like to play if given a chance, and she answered Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel. Many of her fans approved of the idea since she's proven to be a lady who can do action on and off-cam, according to People.
Her movie credits include "Expendables 3," "Fast & Furious 7," and "Entourage." The 28-year-old is also set to star in "Road House" and "Mile 22."
4. Jennifer Lawrence
Finally, there's Jennifer Lawrence who has proven to be a lucky charm among big movie franchises. She's starred as badass Katniss Everdeen in the movie adaptations of Suzanne Collins' popular "Hunger Games" trilogy. Lawrence has also become a trademark of the "X-Men" franchise after landing the role of Mystique since "X-Men: First Class."
The 25-year-old has also proven her acting prowess having been nominated in several award winning bodies and winning a number of awards since 2010.
At this point, there is no rush to pick the lead actress to play Captain Marvel. After all, production for the movie will not begin until 2017, as per ScreenRant.
More updates on the "Captain Marvel" franchise are arriving soon, so stay tuned.
